36 metres of copper stolen from Guelph construction site

Guelph Police are investigating the theft of more than 36 metres of copper from a local construction site.

Police said in a statement that they received a call last Wednesday (May 5) to a the site on Hanlon Creek Boulevard in the city’s south side. “Sometime overnight a gate was removed from its hinges to gain access to the site, then a plywood barrier was smashed open to get into the building,” the police statement said.

A new industrial building is under construction at 350 Hanlon Creek Blvd. Offering potential tenants flexible units ranging from 4,259 sq. ft. to 52,649 sq. ft., broker JLL reports.

“More than 36 metres of copper wire which had already been installed was cut out and removed, as well as copper wire on a spool,” police said. They did not have an immediate estimate of the copper’s value.
