Mississauga council has endorsed the Lakeview Development recommendation report, passing an important milestone in the development of the 177-acre site, formerly the Lakeview Power Generating Station lands.

A staff report supports the draft plan of subdivision, rezoning and official plan amendment applications, and establishes the land uses for the site. The Lakeview Waterfront is one of Mississauga’s three key redevelopment waterfront projects along with Port Credit West Village and 1 Port Street.

Lakeview Community Partners Limited (LCP) is a partnership of Greater Toronto Area’s leading community builders including TACC Construction Limited, Greenpark Group, CCI Development Group, Branthaven Homes, and Argo Development Corporation. The team will now work through the subdivision engineering process to submit site plan applications for individual blocks within the development.

Following LCP’s second engineering submission proposed for May 2022, approximate time lines could see servicing going into the ground in summer 2022 with construction beginning in fall 2022.

“We’re one step closer to transforming our waterfront into a world-class destination rivalling Stockholm, Chicago and San Francisco,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “Our waterfront will attract a new generation to Mississauga with liveable, walkable communities connecting the lakeshore from east to west.”

Parks, open spaces and easy access to the water are part of the plan that includes a cultural district with spaces for artists to showcase work, an innovation corridor expected to create over 9,000 highly-skilled jobs.

Details of the plan:

  • 8,050 residential units, including over 400 affordable units
  • 180,000 sq. ft. of commercial space
  • 67 acres of waterfront land dedicated to the City for parks, employment and cultural use
  • 27 acres of overall parkland
  • Over 14 acres of employment lands
  • Projected up to 1.5 million sq. ft. of employment space
  • Over 5.5 kilometres of new bike lanes including a new waterfront trail connection

“The proposed development fulfills our vision for a vibrant, green, mixed-use waterfront community,” said Mississauga CAO Paul Mitcham. “It will bring residents, jobs and visitors to what will become a dynamic area of the city.

“With Lakeview and developments across the city, we are moving forward, building a beautiful global and sustainable city with economic and cultural opportunities, active transportation and transit options as well as great public spaces that together are creating strong and connected communities.”
