In a statement, Maple Reinders describes the project as the largest Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) wastewater treatment project in Canada’s history.
“Use of the IPD delivery model is growing in popularity in the Canadian infrastructure sector and is particularly well-suited for projects where a high degree of trust and transparency is required between the owner and project partners, and where multiple projects need to happen simultaneously,” the contractor said in a statement.
The project will take approximately eight years to complete and includes Advanced Nutrient Removal Solution for the existing plant, plans for the expansion of the facility to 96 Megalitres per day, Digester Capacity Expansion, Peak Flow Attenuation Facility, a new Hydro Substation and other critical features.
“Maple Reinders is pleased to continue its legacy of flexibility in project delivery, and open and transparent, ‘partner-based’ approach to project realization. We have extensive experience with this asset type and this partner and are confident that this project will achieve the targets set for by the City of Barrie,” said Reuben Scholtens, Maple Reinders’ vice-president of major projects.
“We are excited to collaborate with the City and our partners in order to bring this world-class facility upgrade to the City of Barrie on time and on budget.”
Bird says it will lead the project’s construction activities and “will provide input into the planning and design processes to support and contribute to their successful planning and delivery.
“Bird has established a prominent industry position in collaborative contracting and I am pleased to see this recognized through multiple IPD awards that have contributed substantially to our robust Backlog,” Bird’s president and CEO Teri McKibbon said in a statement.
“Over the past several years, we have been awarded a number of wastewater projects under this contracting method, and we look forward to bringing our technical and project execution expertise to the City of Barrie. This project contributes to our expanding portfolio and reach in Ontario and reflects our discipline and diligence in providing a highly regarded client service approach that positions us to continue to build long-term shareholder value.”
