The Building Opportunities for Life Today (BOLT) Charitable Foundation presented the George Brown College with gift of $30,000 towards student scholarships for the 2020‑21 academic year on July 15, continuing the foundation’s support for the college.  BOLT, established by Tridel, has supported George Brown College students since 2009.

The BOLT Charitable Foundation Award is available to students in nine programs within George Brown’s Centre for Construction and Engineering Technologies. To be eligible for the award applicants must be full-time domestic students in financial need with a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in construction.

The award is intended to facilitate the BOLT Charitable Foundation’s mission to “assist under-resourced youth to connect to education and careers in construction” and to “inspire a new generation of tradespeople by providing access to education, training and employment in construction”.

“BOLT truly believes in supporting youth and helping them enter the construction sector. We are pleased to do this through a variety of initiatives such as, scholarships, job shadowing, mentoring, and events like the Day of Discovery and Speak Outs,”  Leo DelZotto, president of Tridel Group, said in a statement.

BOLT executive director Joanne Bin noted the importance of giving back to students in the construction and engineering community. “BOLT wants to support students’ educational journeys in order to pave the way for the next generation of construction workers and, in so doing, future-proof the sector.”

“George Brown College is grateful for the foresight and continuing support for our students by the BOLT Charitable Foundation,” said college president Anne Sado. “Crises, such as the pandemic we now face, often test relationships and convictions. The college is pleased to note that in these difficult times BOLT’s thought leadership and support for our students continue to shine through. We extend our sincerest gratitude to them.”

Students applying for this award must complete an application online on George Brown College’s Awards and Scholarships page.
