Design. Build. Destroy hunger.

That is the goal of the 21st Canstruction Toronto – an annual competition.

Registration is open until Jan. 31.

The international design-and-build competition invites engineers, architects, designers, contractors and design students to compete and raise awareness for hunger issues by collecting food bank donations.

Teams of architects, engineers, designers and students design are invited to join the fun, building ‘Canstructures’ –  structures made entirely from canned foods.

Participants compete for titles including structural ingenuity, most cans and best original design.

Canstruction Toronto teams collected 68,785 pounds of goods for the Daily Bread Food Bank at the 2019 event.

An information night will be held Jan. 23 at downtown Toronto’s Design Exchange, and the deadline for registration is Jan. 31 and design submissions must be completed by Feb. 28.

The build night is June 1 at the TD Centre, followed by judging and an awards gala on June 2. Projects will then be available for public viewing for a week before ‘decanstruction’ happens on June 7.
