A build team headed by EllisDon Corp. and Coco Paving Inc. (EDCO) is about to begin major bridge construction project just west of Toronto.

Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) awarded a fixed-price contract of $313.8 million to design, build and finance the QEW / Credit River Improvement project.

The EDCO team includes:

  • Developer: EllisDon Capital Inc. and Coco Paving Inc.
  • Constructors: EllisDon Capital Inc. and Coco Paving Inc.
  • Designers: AECOM Canada Ltd.
  • Financial: EllisDon Capital Inc

EDCO estimates the majority of the labour will come from the Greater Toronto Area. There will be approximately 150 workers on site at the peak of construction and work is expected to be completed by mid 2025.

The six-lane Credit River Bridge in Mississauga is roughly 85-years-old and in need of significant work. Stakeholder consultations on the latest design and construction report issued by the EDCO partnership will be completed on Nov. 19. Construction began in the summer of 2020 when MTO initiated site preparation work and installation of environmental protection measures.

The QEW and Credit River Improvement project spans approximately 2.6 km long from west of Hurontario Street to west of Mississauga Road in the City of Mississauga, Region of Peel. The build team is a Joint Venture between EllisDon and Coco Paving Inc.

“Our EDCO team is eager to get started on this exciting project and provide a better way for Ontarians to commute and get to where they need to be,” Max Mantha, senior vice president, EllisDon said in a statement. “We look forward to working with Coco Paving and the Province on delivering this exciting project.”

Work will include construction of a new twin bridge north of the existing Credit River Bridge; rehabilitation of the existing Credit River Bridge; widening and improving the QEW; replacing the Mississauga Road overpass; improving/reconfiguring the Mississauga Road interchange and constructing active transportation crossings (and associated trail infrastructure) at the QEW and over the Credit River.

“The QEW and Credit River project is a key Infrastructure project required to ensure the movement of goods and people to their ultimate destinations faster and easier. We look forward to working with the Province of Ontario, together with our partner EllisDon, to deliver this critical project, said Jenny Coco, CEO Coco Paving Inc.

This P3 project is expected to generate employment opportunities, manage traffic congestion, reducing travel times and moving people and goods more effectively within the QEW corridor.
