Metrolinx has selected Dagmar Construction to complete the $62 million Kitchener GO Corridor expansion project.

Dagmar, a subsidiary of Bird Construction, will complete railway track, signal and station works related to the project.

It’s the first of several infrastructure upgrades planned for the Kitchener GO expansion program to transform the line and bring increased two-way all-day service and better connectivity to the larger GO Transit network.

“We are proud to be selected to support the delivery of this important infrastructure project for Metrolinx,” said Teri McKibbon, president and CEO of Bird.

The scope of the contract includes building a second platform at Guelph Central GO Station, a new storage track for maintenance vehicles west of Guelph and a 2.6-kilometre passing track in the community of Breslau (part of Woolwich Township), to allow trains travelling in opposite directions to pass each other.

The next phases of work will also include a passing track at Acton GO Station, a storage track for maintenance vehicles near Rockwood, a north platform extension at Guelph GO Station, expansion of the Shantz Station Road bridge and extension of the second track in Breslau, as well as track re-alignments through the corridor.

Additional construction contracts will deliver track, signal, station and structural work on both the Metrolinx and CN Rail owned portions of the line to support future service increases.
