Detail Of Services: Harkness Laboratory of Fisheries Research is a field station focusing on ecological research for the Ontario Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources & Forestry. Harkness is located on the shore of Lake Opeongo in Algonquin Provincial Park. The facility currently operations on four septic systems that support 13 cabins and five other buildings that have water (cookhouse, classroom, chem lab, sample hut, and washrooms). Schedule 5 provides an overview of the facility and outlines the current septic system, as well as all required components for the new septic system. The successful contractor will decommission all four of the current septic systems and replace them with two new systems. The main septic system will be replaced in its current location. The new main septic installation will consist of a septic tank, balancing tank, distribution box, leaching bed, appropriate fill and control panel. To transition the whole facility to this new main sewage system, new pump tanks are required for three cabins (Langford, Martin, and Fraser) and replacement of the main pump tank. All existing pump tanks (Miller and Dymond) must be retrofitted with a high-level alarm and access riser. Any existing mains that have been exposed to above-ground (ultraviolet (UV) exposure) are to be decommissioned and replaced. All new and existing force mains are to be pressure tested for conveyance. The other new septic system component is a raised filter bed for a new staff cabin, this cabin will be constructed in the coming years. The installation of this system will require clearing of the entire area (13.1m X 19.85m), installation of a septic tank, a leaching bed. This system will be gravity fed.
