Bridges, culverts and roadwork in Eastern Ontario will go ahead with $1.5 million from the Federal government.

The announcement was made recently by Francis Drouin, MP for Glengarry-Prescott-Russel who visited the North Glengarry community this week. In addition, Ontario has committed over $1 million to the projects.

“Improving Canada’s roads and bridges is important to supporting the long term growth of our communities,” said Drouin.

Two projects will receive funds from the Rural and Northern Communities Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Plan.

A new, two-lane bridge will replace an aging, single-lane bridge that has surpassed its expected lifespan on Creek Road in North Glengarry, a project that local politicians say will improve traffic flow and safety for drivers.

“The Creek Road bridge has been a concern of council for several years, with regard to large farming equipment safely passing over, due to the size of the bridge and the deterioration due to age,” said North Glengarry Mayor Jamie MacDonald.

The second project to receive funding is the construction of a culvert and road improvements in St. Isidore on County Road 9, near Concession Road 17, improving drainage and overall road safety.

In total, federal and provincial investments in the infrastructure plan will exceed $10.4 billion, with cash distributed in four streams: rural and northern communities, public transit, green and community, culture and recreation.
