A former Niagara Falls hotel is being converted into an 82-suite retirement home and assisted-living facility.
The private retirement home is expected to open late spring or early summer 2020. It is described as “Niagara’s first lifestyle for today, on-site care for tomorrow facility.”
City council approved a zoning bylaw amendment application for the property in January and a staff report said the retirement home “would help the municipality meet its intensification targets set by the province, as an adaptive reuse of an existing building, and would provide an additional housing choice for seniors,” the Niagara Falls Review reports.
Amenities will include a heated indoor saltwater pool, ample parking, a tuck shop, a fitness centre, a large outdoor patio, activity room and a separate chapel that can hold 40 people.
There will also be an outdoor bistro which will allow for al fresco dining onsite.
It also complements and enhances the Niagara Square retail district, as envisioned by the city’s official plan which includes a Mandarin restaurant, Cinepex Odeon theatre and a 14,419 sq. m./155,205 sq. ft. Costco Wholesale expected to open in 2020.
