George Brown College students dominated at the Construction Institute of Canada’s 2019 Simulated Student Bid Competition, sweeping three of the four categories.
“The performance of our students was excellent,” said Adel Esayed, dean of the college’s Centre for Construction and Engineering Technologies (CCET). “The completion was also a great networking opportunity for our students — and a great opportunity for the people in our industry to meet our students and recognize their abilities.”
The bid challenge included 74 teams from seven colleges and universities from across Canada — including a 34 teams from George Brown, which were supervised by CCET professors Tulsi Regmi and Rasha At-Attar, the college reported in its newsletter.
“The bid competition is one of the most important and sought-after national student competitions in Canada for construction management students,” Regmi said. “Every year, our students look forward to this competition as a ‘rite of passage,’ and they contribute their best efforts to challenge themselves to stand out amongst the very best in the country.”
The competition aims to help students understand and gain experience in the construction bidding and estimating process. Competitors must submit complete bids based on contract documents for a complex building project. Submissions are then evaluated by a panel of industry professionals. This year’s bid was for a $29-million, 162,000 sq. ft. indoor soccer facility.
