GVCA presents symposium about collaboration, procurement innovation

The Grand Valley Construction Association (GVCA) has scheduled an Oct. 30 symposium: The Innovation of Procurement and the Wisdom of Collaboration in Waterloo.

The program with the acronyn PACE represents Perfecting Procurement, Adapting Agreements, Consensus, Clarity and Communication and Evolution Equals Excellence.

There are four sessions as outlined in the event’s announcement:

SESSION 1
KEYNOTE ADDRESS: WHAT A HIGH FUNCTIONING COLLABORATIVE TEAM LOOKS LIKE IN REAL LIFE
There is no perfect team, but there are high functioning teams that can tackle the difficult problems using innovation, collaboration and communication tools. Scott Higgins, HIP
Developments, shares insight from the inner workings of his team that result in some of
Waterloo Region’s most innovative and collaborative projects.

SESSION 2
INSIDER KNOWLEDGE: THE THREE THINGS THAT WOULD FIX 90% OF OUR PROBLEM
When you’re the president of the GVCA almost every phone call is from a member who has a significant problem. After thousands of phone calls over 13 years, Martha George, GVCA, shares the three things that would solve most of these problems.

SESSION 3
ALPHABET SOUP: MAKING SENSE OF LEAN, IPD, AND OTHER PROJECT DELIVERY METHODS

What does it all mean and how can these project methodologies and peer review help you move your projects forward faster and with more success for all the stakeholders? Learn about the benefits of common language, fundamental principles and basic practices. Paul Eichinger, MTE and David Dow, Diamond Schmitt Architects present, and Art Winslow of Graham Construction will lead a 15-minute activity that highlights the concepts of LEAN.

SESSION 4
INTEGRATING INNOVATION TO ENABLE ENVIRONMENTS
PCC Integrate specializes in smart buildings and smart technology that enables workspaces to reach their full potential when it comes to bridging the physical and digital worlds. This session will see Peter Crawley of PCC Integrate share examples, benefits and insight into integrating technology into your projects at the earliest stages of “imagining what is possible”.
