Three major projects will soon create plenty of work for unionized electricians in eastern Ontario, says John Bourke, business manager and financial secretary for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) local 586 in Ottawa.

“With the awarding of three major projects recently in our jurisdiction, our local will have strong employment opportunities in the upcoming months and years,” he wrote in the union local’s newsletter.

“Center Block which has been awarded to TWZ Group, The Energy Services Acquisition Program on ESAP which has been awarded to Black and McDonald and as well the nuclear build in Chalk River which has been awarded to Plan Group.

“These projects will employ many members once they are up and running, however these jobs will require Secret Clearance,” Bourke wrote. “I strongly recommend that all members that are interested in working on these projects obtain the clearance to gain access to these sites in a timely and efficient manner.”
