The Town of Mattawa in Northern Ontario will receive a financial boost from the provincial government to repair a bridge damaged by flooding last year.
As part of the Connecting Links program, Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli, announced that the province is providing Mattawa with $1.3 million to support the Rehabilitation of the Pont Mauril Bridge.
“We’re pleased that the Town of Mattawa’s Pont Mauril Bridge has received the maximum contribution through the Province’s Connecting Links Program,” said Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing.
“Mattawa has been long awaiting this funding for the rehabilitation of the Pont Mauril Bridge, and thanks go to all community members who have advocated for this throughout the years. Today is an exciting day for the whole community.”
The bridge connects Highway 533 across the Mattawa River and was severely damaged by flooding.
The provincial program covers up to 90 per cent of eligible project costs to a maximum of $3 million, including for design, construction, renewal, rehabilitation and replacement.
Ontario is providing $30 million to build a safer and more reliable transportation system that will help keep goods moving and better connect municipalities throughout the province.
The 2020-21 Connecting Links program will support 24 municipalities across the province to help them build, repair or replace municipal roads and bridges that connect two ends of a provincial highway through a community or to a border crossing.
The program is delivered through the Ministry of Transportation. The funding covers up to 90 per cent of eligible project costs, to a maximum of $3 million. Eligible costs include the design, construction, renewal, rehabilitation and replacement of connecting links.
In Ontario, there are a total of 352 kilometres of connecting links, with 70 bridges in 77 municipalities.
