A Bracebridge crowd witnessed a stampede of high heel-clad men on Sunday, as area residents participated in YWCA’s “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event.

Over 100 Muskoka men signed up to take part in the event at Bracebridge’s Rotary Centre, and committed to taking a stroll in heels to raise money for the local charity.

Muskoka Builders’ Association participated in this year’s walk. Their team, dubbed “Men with Tools!” surpassed its goal to raise $5,482 for the cause, and was the top fundraising group for the event. This year’s Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event raised almost $25,000, surpassing its goal.

Proceeds of the event go to Muskoka YMCA, which provides educational programs, workshops and advocate on violence prevention.

Since its inception in 2015, almost 300 men have participated in Muskoka region’s Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event, and have raised over $80,000 in support of YWCA programs. Violence prevention is one of YWCA’s four main strategic directions, and the walk contributes to December 6th Fund which provides interest free loans for women fleeing domestic violence.
