Oshawa approves Plan20Thirty plan to revitalize downtown

Oshawa council has approved Plan20Thirty to address new challenges and opportunities.

The goal is to improve and promote Downtown Oshawa as a unique destination for working, living, attending post-secondary school, shopping, dining and enjoying entertainment.

Council approved 60 action items under core pillars including business growth, residential growth, physical environment, modernization and innovation.

“Plan 20Thirty guides the further revitalization of our downtown as a destination for residents and visitors alike,” said Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter. “It charts a new path towards a vibrant and dynamic future for Downtown Oshawa.”

Key objectives include:

  • Developing actions to mitigate impacts of the pandemic
  • Identifying the primary role(s) and current state of the downtown
  • Examining current challenges and future opportunities
  • Building consensus on strategic directions and activities
  • Informing potential revisions to downtown zoning
  • Generating investment leads and opportunities
  • Meeting Oshawa’s job growth targets (mandated by Places to Grow legislation)
  • Enhancing a better economic foundation for future growth
