Ottawa seeks $4.48 million Canadian Community Revitalization Fund grants for city projects

The City of Ottawa has listed a series of projects it plan to fund with federal government funds from the Canadian Community Revitalization Fund, if the city’s $4.48 million application is successful.

The federal government overall “has allocated $500 million to disperse over two years to support not-for-profit organizations, municipalities, other community groups and Indigenous communities to build new community infrastructure and revitalize existing assets,” Stephen Willis, general manager, Planning, Infrastructure and Economic Development and Donna Gray, general manager, Community and Social Services Department, wrote in a memo to mayor Jim Watson and city counsellors last Tuesday (Aug. 10).

They wrote that the funds cover projects and activities that were deemed eligible for application are being prioritized by the Federal Government in the following order:

  • revitalize downtown cores and main streets
  • reinvent outdoor spaces
  • create green infrastructure
  • increase the accessibility of community spaces

They set out a listing of seven project listings, with respective projects listed in priority ranking:

Village designated core and main street public realm/accessibility improvements ($750,000 grant application)

  • Carp Village Core – Reconstruct south sidewalk, streetscaping islands, new pedestrian facility (paved shoulder or other) along Donald B Munro Dr. from Carp Rd. To 350 m west of Carp Rd. (Ward 5 – West Carleton)
  • Cumberland Village Core – Reconstruct sidewalk along Old Montreal Road between Dunning Rd. and Peter Harkness Ln. (Ward 19 – Cumberland)
  • Metcalfe Village Core – Reconstruct south sidewalk along Victoria St. between 8th Line Rd. and Caroline St. (Ward 20 – Osgoode)
  • Manotick Village Core – Reconstruct east sidewalk and paving stone boulevard along Manotick Main St. between O’Grady St. and Bridge St. (Ward 21 – Rideau – Goulbourn)

Suburban town centre and designated main street public realm/accessibility improvements ($750,000 grant application)

  • Gloucester South Nepean – Multi-use pathway connection from Bunchberry to Albion Road (Ward 22 – Gloucester-South Nepean)
  • Barrhaven – Depressed curbs and Tactile Walking Surface Indicators (TWSIs) at Tartan Rd. where it makes 90-degree turn (Ward 3 – Barrhaven)
  • Innes Arterial Mainstreet – Blackburn Hamlet – Reconstruct north sidewalk along Innes Road between Tauvette St. and Pennington Ln. (Ward 2 – Innes)
  • Kanata Town Centre – Reconstruct west sidewalk along Kanata Ave. from Campeau Dr. to 220m of south of Campeau Dr. (Ward 4 – Kanata North)
  • Baseline-Fisher Commercial Area – Reconstruct west sidewalk along Fisher Ave. between Malibu Terr. and Baseline Rd. (Ward 9 – Knoxdale – Merivale)
  • Eagleson Arterial Mainstreet – Reconstruct east sidewalk along Eagleson Road between Fernbank Rd. and Cadence Gate / Cope Dr. (Ward 23 – Kanata South)
