Infrastructure Ontario and Niagara Health have issued a request for qualifications (RFQ) for a  design-build-finance-maintain team for the new South Niagara hospital.

Submissions will be reviewed to shortlist three teams with the design and construction experience, as well as the financial capacity to deliver a project of this size and complexity. Shortlisted teams will be invited to respond to request for proposals, expected to be released in fall 2021.

The project will be delivered as a P3 (Public-Private Partnership) model.

“The pandemic has highlighted the importance of effective infection, prevention and control measures. We look forward to working with the successful bidding team to ensure we are building a facility that is ready for what the future may bring,” said Lynn Guerriero, president and  interim CEO, Niagara Health.

The new state-of-the-art facility involves the creation of Centres of Excellence in stroke, complex care, geriatric psychiatry and ageing and wellness. The project will have a senior’s focus embedded into all aspects of the design. The project is working towards becoming the first WELL® certified healthcare facility in Canada, improving the work-life experience for our staff and physicians and enhancing the well-being of all who use the building.

“With this new build, and the WLMH rebuild in West Niagara, the Niagara Region will have a significant number of brand-new health care facilities, which will ensure patients and their families receive the best possible care,” said Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff.

The South Niagara hospital project continues to move through the Ministry of Health’s five-stage planning process for building a new health infrastructure in Ontario.
The project will be delivered as a P3 (Public-Private Partnership) model. Find out more about P3s here.

“The RFQ release demonstrates the hard work and dedication of our staff, physicians, volunteers and community to see this project move forward,” said Angela Zangari, executive lead South Niagara Project, Niagara Health.

“Because of the tireless efforts of our team and the broader community, we have maintained our schedule throughout this very difficult time – demonstrating our commitment to improve the healthcare of our region.”
