The City of Windsor opened a new 2.6-kilometre stretch of trail this week, connecting Walker Road to Pillette Road.
Mayor Drew Dilkens and Ward 9 Councillor Kieran McKenzie unveiled the latest Walk Wheel Windsor approved trail connecting sections of our community.
“With trails like this one, as well as the Dougall Underpass trail that we opened a few of weeks ago and the bike lanes just finished in the upgraded Dominion and Northwood area, we’re making several key investments in healthy, active living for our community,” said Mayor Dilkens.
The cost of construction was approximately $976,000 with $651,000 paid for by the Ontario Municipal Commuter Cycling Program grant.
“We’ve heard from residents and business people in the area that they needed a means of getting safely along the Rhodes Drive/Deziel Drive area,” said Councillor McKenzie. “This paved stretch of trail is the perfect solution, and we’re looking forward to the next connection as well.”
The second phase of trail construction is now underway and will see the trail continued east along Rhodes Drive to Jefferson at Quality Way where it will connect with the existing multi-use trail on Quality Way.
This work is all part of the implementation of Walk Wheel Windsor, the City’s Active Transportation Master Plan.
