Whitby opens 2022 Community Development Grant applications

The Town of Whitby is now accepting applications for the 2022 Community Development Grant Program.

Community grants of up to $5,000 will be available throughout the year and are awarded monthly. Special projects for grants of up to $25,000 will also be considered under the Performing Arts Community Development Fund.

Over the past five years, the town has given over $850,000 to local non-profit organizations. Last year, over $200,000 was given to 52 community organizations – almost 50 per cent responding to community needs as a result of COVID-19.

All applications are reviewed by a council-appointed citizens committee according to evaluation guidelines.

All applications are reviewed by a citizens’ committee according to evaluation guidelines approved by Council. High priority is given to community-focused activities with a strong, local presence, that promote inclusion and civic engagement, and that have measureable outcomes.

Application are evaluated on:

  • benefit to the community (scale, inclusivity, direct and indirect benefits)
  • soundness of business plan (including resources, own funds and fundraising)
  • importance of the Town’s contribution
  • success of the project will be determined

Highest priority goes to community focused projects, activities and events with a strong local presence that promote social inclusion and civic engagement within the community.
