Ontario’s Progressive Conservative government says it wants to move the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board’s (WSIB) head office to London, Ont., from Toronto if re-elected.

The province says the move will require legislative changes that will have to happen after the spring election if the party forms government again.

Labour Minister Monte McNaughton says the proposed change will save taxpayer dollars because the current Toronto location costs more than $30 million per year.

He says it’s also part of an effort to create jobs in communities by spreading provincial agencies across Ontario.

The government says it’s considering moving other agencies outside of Toronto and basing newly established agencies in other regions if possible.

The Tory government has also recently announced it’s looking into raising the compensation rate for injured workers if re-elected.
