The Town of Bradford expects to save about $438,000 by rescheduling a major road construction project.

According to a recent staff report, the savings came from rescheduling the rehabilitation of Reagens Industrial Parkway to this year along with work on Line 8 and Sideroad 10 and reducing the cost to $550,000.

The Line 8 project is the first phase of an ultimate upgrade of these roads to accommodate the near future traffic volume increases. Work was scheduled this year because Line 8 is expected to be used as a detour route for other construction projects, including County Road 4 reconstruction, Bradford By-Pass bridge construction and Holland Street Revitalization.

The contract for the rehabilitation of Line 8 and SR10 was tendered publicly and awarded to Lisbon Paving in April.

Originally, the plan was to complete the Reagens project in 2026 at an estimated cost of $988,000.

However, Lisbon agreed to complete the work on Reagens this year using the same rates as agreed to for the Line 8 project which resulted in “significant savings” to the town, according to Ramdeo’s report.

The town also decided to delay planned rehabilitation on Simcoe Road as an affordable housing project is completed in the area.

“These are great opportunities,” he said. “This one fell in our lap and I will say our contractor, Lisbon Paving, has given us such a great opportunity and they’re right there for us and they said yes they’ll do it and they’re a local contractor.

“Hopefully we can take opportunities like this in the future to get those extra roads done. I know we want to pave them. Trust me, I want every gravel road paved if I can.”

The $677,000 originally budgeted for Simcoe was returned to the 2024 Roads Rehabilitation Program account, from which the $550,000 for Reagens was approved.
