Bruce Power has announced a $700-million contract to replace steam generators in Units 5, 7, and 8 as the next phase of the Major Component Replacement (MCR) program.

The contract has been awarded to the Steam Generator Replacement Team (SGRT), a joint venture with Aecon and SGT – a collaboration between Framatome and United Engineers & Constructors, Inc. (United).

“Building on the successful work by SGRT on previous units, this contract award demonstrates Bruce Power’s confidence in SGRT to execute the remaining steam generator replacements safely, on time, and with excellent quality,” said Jean-Louis Servranckx, president and CEO of Aecon Group Inc. “Aecon is proud of its key role as construction partner on the Bruce MCR project, which is helping advance the energy transition while creating jobs and generating economic development opportunities.”

Work is scheduled to begin in 2027.

“Our team continues to provide innovative solutions and maximize lessons learned from recent steam generator replacements to improve performance for ongoing and future projects,” said Framatome’s Erik Dorman, SVP of the Installed Base Business Unit in North America. “We are committed to executing this program with the highest quality, shortest duration achievable, and in the most cost-effective manner.”

The scope work includes comprehensive engineering and planning, removal of old steam generators, installation of new ones, construction management and procurement activities.

“We are proud to be part of the team supporting Bruce Power’s Units 5, 7, and 8 steam generator replacements,” said Art Lembo, president and CEO of United Engineers & Constructors. “Bruce Power’s continued investment in these units will help deliver emissions-free, reliable power for years to come.

“This work through our participation in the SGRT joint venture is a testament to our commitment to a clean energy future.”

The successful execution of this contract is expected to further enhance Bruce Power’s ability to provide stable and clean energy, meeting Ontario’s growing energy demands while supporting the local economy through continued investments in the nuclear sector.
