City of Brampton to begin downtown streetscape construction next month

The City of Brampton will begin the Downtown Brampton Streetscape construction along Main Street (between Nelson Street and Wellington Street) and Queen Street (between Mill Street and Chapel Street) in September 2024.

GSP Group’s design removes on-street parking and devotes more space to pedestrians and cyclists. It features a widened pedestrian clearway and cafe zone, an area for trees and furniture, and a raised cycling lane.

Brampton streetscapingIncreasing construction costs added about $6.5 million to the expected cost and work is expected to last until December 2027.

Work includes widening of existing sidewalks with new granite pavers, narrowing roadways to one lane in each direction and resurfacing the pavement, constructing semi-mountable granite curbs with 1.5m wide bicycle lane, installing new moveable planter, installing new street furniture (i.e., benches) and replacing six traffic signals with new components.
