Project partners and dignitaries gathered to break ground on the new Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital (PECMH) in Pembroke last week.
The Quinte Health redevelopment team is finalizing schedules, reviewing shop drawings for major systems and developing site logistics and phasing plans.
Infrastructure Ontario awarded the contract to build the new to M. Sullivan & Son Limited. Construction is expected to begin in September.

The new design will incorporate natural light in the atrium, energy-efficient windows throughout and sustainable materials wherever possible.

Key features of the new hospital site include:
- 23 inpatient beds
- 24/7 emergency department
- Acute inpatient unit supported by physicians within the Prince Edward Family Health Team
- Inpatient pharmacy
- Satellite hemodialysis unit
- Ambulatory care including clinics, medical day care, procedure rooms and medical device reprocessing
- Diagnostic imaging including x-ray, ultrasound, mammography and cardio-diagnostics
- Central laboratory
- Efficient access to other Quinte Health hospitals, secondary care in Belleville and tertiary care in Kingston
- New helipad
