The District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board (DNSSAB) and the Nipissing District Housing Corporation have completed initial feasibility work on projects that could add 136 affordable housing units across the district.
The work included preliminary design and planning, site assessments and construction cost estimates, moving the projects closer to the pre-construction stage.
The next phase will involve detailed engineering, site planning, regulatory approvals and procurement preparation.
The goal is to have the projects ready to proceed once capital funding is secured.
“Getting these projects shovel-ready is an important step toward responding to the need for affordable housing across the District of Nipissing and being ready to move when capital funding is secured,” DNSSAB said.
The projects are part of a broader regional housing initiative led through the Northern Ontario Service Deliverers Association (NOSDA).
The initiative’s first phase includes 609 proposed housing units across 10 Northern Ontario communities. A second phase is expected to expand the regional pipeline to approximately 1,200 units.
The feasibility work is intended to reduce the time needed to advance the projects once funding becomes available.
