$383-million Mount Sinai Hospital redevelopment completed

Mount Sinai Hospital is celebrating the completion of its largest-ever redevelopment project, thanks to a $383 million investment from the province.

Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Sinai Health System awarded a fixed-price contract to EllisDon Capital Inc. (EllisDon) to build and finance the Sinai Health System’s Phase 3A redevelopment project. “The contract between EllisDon and Sinai Health System is for $288.5 million.

The redevelopment project encompassed over 323,000 square feet of hospital space, significantly expanding and modernizing key areas including:

  • Emergency Department: The emergency department has been expanded and redesigned to improve patient care.
  • Operating Rooms: The project includes the overhaul of 19 operating rooms and the addition of two new ones.
  • Intensive Care Unit (ICU): The ICU has been redeveloped to include 36 new beds, enhancing critical care capabilities.
  • Medical/Surgical Inpatient Unit: This unit has been expanded by 28 beds to accommodate more patients.
  • Hospital Kitchen: The kitchen has been renovated to improve food services.
  • Ambulatory Oncology Program: A new, modern space has been created for the oncology program, supporting advanced cancer care.
