Aecon Utilities Group Inc. has acquired Ainsworth Power Construction (APC), an electrical services and power systems business, from GDI Integrated Facility Services.

The acquisition strengthens Aecon’s position in the electrical utility sector and brings APC’s management and operational teams under the Aecon Utilities umbrella. The transaction is being financed through Aecon Utilities’ revolving credit facility.

Based in Toronto, APC has more than 80 years of experience providing comprehensive electrical services to utility clients, primarily in Ontario. The company employs more than 80 people and generates most of its revenue through long-term Master Service Agreements, ensuring recurring business.

“The acquisition of APC builds on our strong collaborative partnership, strengthens relationships with key clients, and diversifies our utility infrastructure expertise,” said Jean-Louis Servranckx, president and CEO of Aecon Group Inc.

Aecon Utilities, a leader in utility infrastructure in Canada and the U.S., sees this acquisition as an opportunity to expand its market share and offer turnkey solutions to utility customers.

Aecon Utilities executive vice-president Eric MacDonald said in a statement that the deal will help the company pursue growth opportunities in the energy transition sector. “We are pleased to welcome the experienced APC team to Aecon Utilities as we continue to evolve our business,” he said.

Aecon Utilities and APC have worked together as joint venture partners to expand electricity distribution infrastructure across Ontario. Chris Manielly, vice president of electrical at Aecon Utilities, described the acquisition as a natural next step in deepening the partnership.

The transaction was financed through Aecon Utilities’ committed revolving credit facility. Aecon Utilities operates in four key sectors: electrical transmission and distribution, renewables, telecommunications, and pipeline distribution.
