Development company Aerarium Group has broken ground on a new commercial/industrial development in the City of Barrie.

On Oct. 2, Mayor Alex Nuttall was joined by Steve Sperling, Aerarium Group president, to launch construction on a new 65,000-sq. ft. facility at 311 King St., in the city’s southend.

“We are here to announce and highlight another successful investment taking place in our city for jobs, commercial and industrial,” Nuttall said. “The city continues to be committed to supporting our local growth of employment and making sure that our land space inventory has a strong mix of shovel-ready and tenant-ready facilities available.”

Sperling thanked the mayor and noted the project was about to be scrapped when city staff “helped us out.”

Expecting supply-chain and labour factors, Sperling said the build will take longer than usual and is expected to be completed in July, 2024.

“This was recently approved through our development process,” Nuttall told reporters. “Making sure that our land and space inventory has a strong mix of shovel-ready and tenant-ready facilities available.”

The site is expected to include five units available for commercial and industrial opportunities.
