The City of Barrie has announced two new purpose-built rental housing developments led by Street Properties and YYZed Project Management that will add 341 new rental units to the local housing supply, including 69 designated affordable units.
One of the projects is a 12-storey, 188-unit development at 53 Coulter St. and the second is a 153-unit development at 375 Yonge St.
“By working with Street Properties and YYZed Project Management and continuing to support purpose-built rental housing, we are helping deliver the kind of housing our residents need,” said Mayor Alex Nuttall. “These 341 new rental units, including 69 affordable units, are another major step toward making housing more attainable for families, young people, and seniors in Barrie.”
City officials noted the 69 affordable units form part of more than 770 affordable homes approved by Council across Barrie through ongoing housing incentive programs, partnerships, and sustained investment aimed at increasing supply and improving affordability.
“Barrie is demonstrating real leadership when it comes to tackling housing affordability and accelerating new rental supply,” said Sam Di Pasquale, director at YYZed Project Management and representative of Street Properties. “We are proud to partner with the City on projects that will create more housing options for residents and contribute to the long-term growth of the community.”
