Work to raise a road’s elevation by 11 metres has been delayed three times since it began in June.

The latest delay caused by snow and cold weather slowed the contractor’s ability to truck fill into the site because of frozen ground.

“As a result of the recent cold weather and snow and the forecast for the remainder of the week, the anticipated schedule for the opening of Fairview has been pushed back to Dec. 13,” reads a notice on the city’s website. “The contractor has been working to expedite this process and the city is monitoring their progress daily.”

This work is part of the ongoing $46.3 million Harvie Road bridge project. The Highway 400 overpass will have two lanes in each direction, a two-way left turning lane and sidewalks. Bike lanes are also included.

According to local media reports, foundation construction on the east and west sides of Highway 400 has begun and is now expected to be completed in the spring of 2020.  The bridge foundation in the median of Highway 400 will be completed this year.

The completed overpass is scheduled for fall 2020.
