Residents had an opportunity to help shape the future of transportation in Barrie on June 18 during the third Public Information Centre (PIC) for its Transportation Master Plan update.
Held at Barrie City Hall, the drop-in session gave participants a chance to review the latest recommendations for the long-term transportation network, speak with project team members, and provide feedback on plans that will guide transportation planning through 2051.
The master plan is a blueprint for developing roads, transit, cycling infrastructure and pedestrian networks to support future growth. The current plan was last updated in 2019, and the latest review is intended to ensure Barrie’s transportation system can meet the needs of its growing population and employment base over the next 25 years.
During the meeting, staff presented an overview of the study process, summarized feedback received during the first two public information centres and sought public input on the proposed multi-modal transportation network and the criteria used to evaluate future improvements. Residents were also invited to comment on supporting policy initiatives that will help guide future transportation decisions.
The event marked the third round of public consultation in the Transportation Master Plan update, with City officials emphasizing the importance of community input in developing a transportation network that is safe, connected and sustainable.

Staff will review public input before outlining the next steps in the planning process.
