Ontario Construction News staff writer

The City of Belleville’s draft consolidated zoning by-law is now available online for public viewing and comment.

The updated by-law is a consolidation of the city’s three previous zoning by-laws. It is designed as a user-friendly document which utilizes plain language and modernizes terminology to reflect today’s society. The updated by-law also implements the adopted new official plan which will provide more opportunities for additional housing options, support active transportation, and permit new businesses, and offers new protections for the environment, mature neighbourhoods and sensitive land uses.

Dillon Consulting Limited was contracted for the project in 2019 and held a public engagement sessions to gain feedback from the community on the update, including several “hot button” zoning issues. A complete summary of public consultation on the project is available online.

With the draft by-law and mapping now complete, staff and Dillon Consulting will be hosting two Public Information Centres on Apr. 20 from 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. to present the project and get collect feedback before bylaws are finalized.

Meetings will be held at city hall, 169 Front St. Comments can be submitted to pl******@********le.ca.
