Belleville to hold public meeting on industrial development charges exemption

Ontario Construction News staff writer

The City of Belleville will hold a public meeting on Monday, June 23 at 4 p.m. to gather public input on a proposed amendment to its Development Charges By-law that would eliminate the current exemption for new industrial developments.

The meeting will take place during the regular council session in the Council Chamber on the fourth floor of City Hall (169 Front St.).

The amendment is part of a broader update to the city’s Development Charges Background Study and By-law. This project includes two key components: an Industrial Exemption Policy Update and a comprehensive review of the Development Charges By-law 2021-201. The proposed policy update would change the way industrial development charges are calculated and collected, aligning the by-law with the goals of a new industrial program under the city’s Community Improvement Plan (CIP).

City officials say the changes aim to ensure sustainable growth while balancing infrastructure funding needs with economic development goals.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend the meeting to share their views directly with council. Comments can also be submitted online through the project comment form or by contacting city staff at pl******@********le.ca.
