Peel Regional Council has approved the proposed development plan for the city of Brampton. The 2040 Vision for Brampton will guide growth and development up to 2051.
The city says it is the official plan for land use and growth management and will allow for flexibility in how population and housing targets set by the provincial government are achieved. The plan is the result of more than four years of study and public consultation.
“The approval of Brampton Plan marks a significant milestone for our city. With Brampton projected to become a major urban centre in the coming decades, this plan provides a strategic blueprint to manage our growth responsibly,” Bampton mayor Patrick Brown said in a statement
“It reflects our commitment to sustainable development, economic vitality and community well-being.”
The city says the plan will focus on creating vibrant, people-friendly spaces encouraging community interaction and active transportation and will promote sustainable practices through green initiatives, energy conservation and responsible resource management.
It is also focused on economic development and will enhance Brampton’s cultural landscape by supporting arts, culture and heritage programs. The plan also includes policies for promoting inclusivity, diversity and accessibility for all residents.
The city expects Brampton to continue growing at a rate four times faster than Canada’s average and five times the rate of Ontario’s population growth over the next three decades.
