The City of Brampton’s Mobility Plan has received a 2026 PlanON Vision Award of Merit from the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI).

The plan was one of six projects selected to receive a 2026 Vision Award of Merit. The PlanON Awards recognize achievements by planning professionals and teams across Ontario.

Endorsed by Brampton City Council in September 2025, the Brampton Mobility Plan is the city’s long-term Transportation Master Plan and provides a blueprint for transportation investment.

“Brampton is Canada’s fastest-growing big city, and how we plan for that growth today will shape how people live, work and move throughout our city for generations,” said Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown. “This recognition from the Ontario Professional Planners Institute reflects the innovative work happening in Brampton to build a transportation network that gives residents more choice, improves connectivity and supports a sustainable future.”

The plan identifies infrastructure, services and operational improvements needed to move people and goods safely and efficiently as Brampton continues to grow.

Guided by the city’s Complete Streets approach, the plan considers the needs of pedestrians, cyclists, transit users and drivers. It also brings transportation and land-use planning together to increase the overall capacity of Brampton’s transportation network and provide residents with more travel options.

The plan responds to projected population growth through seven guiding principles: enhancing mobility and travel options for people and goods; improving environmental sustainability; integrating transportation and land-use planning; advancing multimodal transportation equity; protecting public health and safety; leveraging technology; and emphasizing community engagement and collaboration.

The Mobility Plan was developed through public engagement and technical analysis and builds on the Brampton Plan and Brampton 2040 Vision.

The award also recognizes the City of Brampton transportation planning staff and project team members who helped develop the plan.

“This recognition reflects the expertise and dedication of City staff who are planning today for the needs of a rapidly growing Brampton,” said Steve Ganesh, Commissioner, Planning, Building and Growth Management. “The Brampton Mobility Plan provides a strong framework to align transportation, infrastructure and land use as our city evolves.

“Receiving this award is a testament to the collaborative work across the organization to deliver thoughtful, long-term solutions that support Brampton’s growth and the services residents rely on.”
