The incident happened on Rossland Road near Westney Road North at about noon on Monday. Sgt. Joanne Bortoluss of the Durham Regional Police has confirmed that rescue crews recovered two bodies from the trench around 2:30 a.m. Tueasday, more than 14 hours after the collapse occurred.

One of the injured men was airlifted to Sunnybrook hospital in Toronto, while another was taken to Lakeridge Health Ajax-Pickering. The victims have been identified and their families have been notified, she said.
