Brockville park construction underway

Construction is underway on a new public park space in downtown Brockville that will honour the memory and legacy of the late John Taylor, former chair of the Brock Trail Committee.

Kehoe Marine was awarded the construction contract for the project, which is located near St. Paul Street and the historic grist mill sluiceway of Buell’s Creek.

The project is transforming an existing green space into a public gathering area designed to highlight the site’s natural and historic features while recognizing Taylor’s contributions to the Brock Trail system.

Work includes a new seating area overlooking the historic stone sluiceway, upgrades to the Brock Trail pathway and access to the gorge, landscaping improvements and additional park lighting.

The project also includes decorative steel fencing, a steel family silhouette installation, new park signage and a commemorative plaque recognizing Taylor.

Construction began Aug. 10 and is expected to be completed this fall.

The city says the project will create a dedicated public space honouring Taylor while improving access to the Brock Trail and enhancing the area around one of downtown Brockville’s historic natural features.
