Bruce Power has joined Ontario Corps, a provincial emergency response network that mobilizes volunteers, equipment and other resources to help communities affected by emergencies.

The partnership will allow the nuclear operator to provide facilities, personnel, vehicles, heavy machinery, specialized tools and emergency management expertise to support response efforts, subject to availability.

Bruce Power will also use its network of contractors, suppliers, industry associations and business partners to help identify and source equipment, materials and other critical resources during emergencies. The company will encourage employees to volunteer with Ontario Corps.

“Joining Ontario Corps is a natural extension of our commitment to supporting the communities we serve and helping build a more resilient Ontario,” said James Scongack, Bruce Power’s chief operating officer and executive vice-president.

The Ontario Corps network can be mobilized within 24 to 72 hours to assist communities affected by emergencies. Resources can include personnel, debris removal equipment, supplies, flood barriers and drones.

Emergency Preparedness and Response Minister Jill Dunlop said Bruce Power’s equipment, facilities and industry connections would help support provincial response efforts.

Bruce Power also can provide risk assessment, technical support, volunteer mobilization assistance and communications and stakeholder relations services.

The company has an emergency management program that includes first responders, equipment, facilities and specialized expertise.

“This partnership will strengthen emergency response capabilities and interoperability across Ontario, helping ensure resources can be mobilized quickly and effectively when emergencies occur,” said Jeff Steven, Bruce Power’s chief security officer and head of emergency preparedness and response.

Ontario Corps welcomes volunteers from a range of professional backgrounds and skill levels. Volunteers receive training and are matched with partner organizations based on their skills, interests and availability.
