Carpenters’ Local 27 members will have access to a one-time COVID-19 vaccination subsidy, the Board of Trustees decided recently.

“To help promote the health and safety for the Carpenters’ Local 27 Membership on the jobsite, at home” active members will be eligible for a $450 subsidy on the date they receive their final vaccine.

The final vaccine must be administered between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2021.

The one-time payment was approved to “encourage and provide assistance to active members to become fully vaccinated in 2021. Proof of full vaccination from the Ministry of Health or applicable governing body will be needed.

“COVID-19 and the response to this pandemic has required that extensive safety precautions be taken by all levels of government, your local Union, employers and the membership,” the executive wrote in a staff newsletter.

“During this unprecedented time, job sites have experienced disruption, delays and even closures to allow for the development and implementation of screening, cleaning and other safety policies and procedures.”

Ontario this week moved up appointments for second doses of COVID-19 vaccines for a number of groups in the coming weeks, and by June 28 all adults will be eligible for their second shots.

Anyone who got a first shot of an mRNA vaccine (either Pfizer of Moderna) between April 19 and May 9 can book a second shot as of June 21, officials said a briefing for media Thursday morning.

“We have made tremendous progress, and we’re continuing to build on that success,” Minister of Health Christine Elliott said at a news conference Thursday.

Earlier this month, the province accelerated the availability of second appointments for people who got an mRNA first dose in seven health units where spread of the delta variant is a concern.

Today that list was expanded to include Durham Region, Hamilton and Simcoe Muskoka.

As of June 23, the full list of delta hot spots will include:

  • Toronto
  • Peel Region
  • York Region
  • Waterloo Region
  • Porcupine
  • Halton Region
  • Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph
  • Durham Region
  • Hamilton
  • Simcoe Muskoka

Ontario’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams said he is “encouraged by the enthusiasm” of people seeking out vaccines and noted the province has a large supply of vaccines coming in.

“We can assure you, you will get a second dose,” Williams said.

Appointments for Ontarians aged 18 and older who got an mRNA vaccine for their first dose on or after May 10 and are outside the delta variant hot spots will now open on June 28 — about two weeks ahead of schedule, officials said.

To book a vaccine visit the provincial website.
