Changes coming to development charges in Belleville

Ontario Construction News staff writer

The City of Belleville is holding a public meeting on Monday, Nov. 8 at 4 p.m., to present details of the proposed development charges by-law and underlying background study.

Development charges are levied on new development to fund the cost of increased municipal services and infrastructure such as sidewalks, sewers, roads, and water mains, resulting from new development. They are based on a background study.

The 2021 Development Charges Background Study has been prepared pursuant to the requirements of the Development Charges Act 1997 and recommends new development charges and policies for the City of Belleville.

Belleville has a city-wide development charge that applies to all lands and an area-specific development charge that applies to specific lands in the Stanley Park area.

Deferral arrangements available through the Development Charges Act for rental housing and institutional development.

To participate in the online public meeting, register in advance by calling Matthew MacDonald at 613-967-3200 ext. 3256 or by email at mt*********@********le.ca.
