The City of Brampton held a groundbreaking event last week, lto kick off construction of the City’s new cricket pitch, which will open in June 2024 at Blue Oak Park.

The new, fully lit facility will feature artificial turf wickets, player pavilions and will be available for use by both the students at Turner Fenton as well as the public.

Construction is slated to begin this month and will be completed around spring/summer 2024.

As the “cricket capital” of Canada, the city’s new pitch will provide a space for youth to enhance their cricket skills while promoting active and healthy lifestyles. The field will welcome leagues this summer.

The City is also planning to build a year-round cricket facility at Earnscliffe Park – the first of its kind in Brampton.

The new pitch will be an artificial field approximately 146 metres by 81 metres or 2.9 acres in size with flexibility for both indoor and outdoor play, depending on the season.

Council has approved a $2 million budget to begin the procurement process for the project, which will include the design and construction of the dome.
