KITCHENER — The City of Kitchener has broken ground on a new community centre and Catholic school in the Rosenberg neighabourhood. This project, a partnership between the City of Kitchener and the Waterloo Catholic District School Board (WCDSB), aims to provide essential space for local students and residents.
“Our longstanding partnership with the WCDSB has made this vision possible. City Council’s $6 million commitment highlights our dedication to creating a space where the community can learn, grow, and thrive,” said Mayor Berry Vrbanovic.
The new Williamsburg Community Centre will span 17,000 square feet and serve as a hub for the Rosenberg and Williamsburg communities. It will feature a double gymnasium, four program rooms, office space, and provisions for a future outdoor rink. The centre will offer a range of programs and services for all ages.
An open call for artists or artist teams is underway for the Kitchener Indoor Recreation Complex (KIRC) public art competition-the first stage in a two-stage process.
Artists or teams with experience in public art projects are invited to apply. The jury will give preference to submissions from diverse backgrounds, including Black, Indigenous, and racialized individuals, as well as 2SLGBTQIA+ community members and people with disabilities. Proposals from artists or teams representing other equity-deserving groups are also encouraged.
