Ontario Construction News staff writer

The City of Pickering is inviting feedback to develop its first community climate adaptation plan (CCAP) which will outline key climate change risks, actions, and strategies to prepare and adapt to weather-related emergencies.

The city has been integrating climate resiliency through existing council-endorsed programs, plans, and policies such as sustainable design standards, stormwater management design guidelines.

pickering climateCouncil also endorsed the Durham Region community climate adaptation plan and the following initiatives:

  • offering warming and cooling centres at City facilities
  • naturalization projects
  • installing shade structures
  • waterfront restoration
  • sharing weather alerts and service disruptions
