Construction is underway on a new, 128 bed long-term care home, the Hellenic Home for the Aged, in Scarborough.
The design of the new building will feature five resident home areas to provide a familiar living space, with dining and activity areas and lounges, the office of the minister of long-term care said in a statement.
The building will include advanced safety and security measures, such as cameras to ensure wellbeing, a nurse call system with GPS tracking, and roam alert technology. The construction will prioritize sustainability, using energy-efficient lighting, water-saving fixtures, and renewable energy generators.
Designed to serve Ontario’s Greek community, the home will offer culturally appropriate care, meals, and services in residents’ preferred language. The home is expected to welcome its first residents in the summer of 2027.
The project is part of the Ontario PC government’s commitment to build 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds across the province, outlined in the 2025 Ontario budget.
This project is a recipient of the Construction Funding Subsidy top-up and is part of the government’s plan to create jobs “while ensuring seniors get the quality of care and quality of life they need and deserve,” Paul Calandra, acting Minister of Long-Term Care, said in the statement.
