Construction noise triggers school lockdowns in Cobourg

Ontario Construction News staff writer

Cobourg Police responded to a report of suspected gunshots Monday afternoon, but the “loud banging noise” was tracked to a nearby construction site.

As a precaution, two schools in the area were placed in brief lockdowns while police investigated the report in the area of King Street and Cottesmore Avenue.

Officers quickly discovered the source of the noise was not gunfire, but rather air-compressed tools being used at a construction site. Once the situation was cleared, lockdowns were lifted, and students were safely dismissed.

Authorities reassured the public that there was no danger to the community.
