Work is set to begin on central lanes of the Gardiner Expressway in Torontoafter 24/7 construction deal between province and city speeds up project timeline.That means construction on the next phase will start about four months ahead of schedule, after an agreement that construction would be happening 24/7 through a deal between the city and the province, Prabmeet Sarkaria told reporters.
“This milestone means two eastbound lanes on the Gardiner Expressway are now rehabilitated and have reopened,” he said. “Workers will begin the demolition and reconstruction of the two central lanes as early as tomorrow, before completing the final, third phase of work on the remaining two westbound lanes.”
Construction started in March to refurbish the 60-year-old highway and portions of its elevated structure that run through the downtown core. The entire project is expected to be finished one year ahead of schedule after the province invested $73 million on the condition work be carried out 24/7.
