Construction starting on seniors housing in Barrie

Construction is starting this week on Residences on Owen in downtown Barrie and is expected to last about three years.

The project contractor is Gillam Group and the developer is Ballantry Homes.

The seniors housing project includes a six-floor podium between a nine-storey building and a 20-storey tower. This development will include assisted living/retirement home units and apartments.

There be also be street-level retail space, underground and structured parking, a theater, games room, wine bar, indoor pet spa and a rooftop patio.

This site is located across from Barrie Public Library’s downtown branch.

“As we turn this symbolic sod today, we are not just breaking ground,” he said. “We are breaking new ground in the way we think about senior living.
