Queens University SNOLAB SuperCDMS Outer Neutron Shield Stainless Steel Water Tanks Fabrication
Industry Name: Educational
Trade Name: College/University
Project Street: Queens University
Project City: Lively
Detail Of Services: The SuperCDMS-SNOLAB experiment requires a series of 304 stainless steel water tanks (32 tanks) that will form a bolted together cylinder with lid. These will form part of the neutron shielding for the SuperCDMS dark matter experiment. The fabrication, passivation, trial assembly, delivery of this stainless steel ‘tank-like’ structure, is the subject of this procurement. This is part of the Supermom’s SNOLAB dark matter experiment that will be installed within SNOLAB’s class 2000 clean lab located on the 6800L of Vale’s Creighton Mine in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. The fabrication and trial assembly of these tanks is required to be performed offsite, however as SNOLAB will transport all items underground on the mine cage dimensions and weights of packages must be adhered to strictly. Please ensure at time of delivery your crating and packaging meets the requirements in the scope of work or delivery may be rejected and re-work will be at your cost. All items brought into the SNOLAB underground clean lab require thorough cleaning to prevent migration of mine dust that would compromise our clean lab environment. In order to preserve our lab cleanliness and ensure the safety of our staff who perform much of this work by hand we specify that all items be de-burred, free of sharp edges and oils be removed prior to shipping.
