NCC Boreal Wildlands Storey Township Restoration

Detail Of Services: NCC acquired seven townships in the south of Hearst, ON in 2022 for conservation, totalling 144,447 hectares of forest. The western part of the property abuts the east side of the southern extent of the Pagwachuan Woodland Caribou (Rangifer tarandus caribou) range. NCC wishes to restore areas on Storey Township that have been impacted by past forestry activity to increase habitat connectivity. To restore this area to more natural conditions, NCC plans to remove abandoned culverts and stream crossings to promote natural historical water flow and reverse compaction along decommissioned and inoperative past forestry roads and branch areas in anticipation of tree planting in 2026. Project Objectives:•Repair washout of one culvert OR drain beaver dam (to gain access to project site) •Remove 20 km minimum (up to 28.3 km) of decommissioned road by de-compacting and removal of old roadbed materials, where applicable, to prepare the site for tree planting in 2026 •Remove 5 culverts/stream crossings and rehabilitate affected sections of streams
